Curiosity Industry
Part Six

The street that ran through the center of Kendricksburg was wide enough to allow for parking on either side. Herman had never seen so many cars before. He followed the moonlight as it passed quivering in silver over each model.

They pulled up to the general store. A heavyset proprietor waddled towards the car, his lungs worked hard to keep the flow of oxygen going. Sweat soaked through his dirty white shirt and apron.

"We're closing wait do you want?" he gasped.

"Carolina blend and a big jug of Greasy Tit Whiskey, please," Jim tilted his head towards Herman and offered a smile. The shopkeeper grumbled, turning with some effort back towards the door.

Above the store, the name Finn Brothers called out in a blinding number of tiny light bulbs, twinkling on the hood of the car. Their reflection reminded Herman of the first time he and his brother were permitted to wonder off by themselves.
